I create ceramics that can be used in everyday life. I am inspired by the functionality of an object as well as its interaction with the user. The pieces I make are things I would buy and use in my own home, both in function and decoration. I create what looks right and what feels right.
I believe it’s important to be surrounded by things that give you joy, especially in a domestic setting. Pottery is a gateway between something that has been created for a purpose and something that is aesthetically pleasing. Although styles and techniques in ceramics have changed through thousands of years the intention has remained the same.
While form and function are factors in creating a piece, the most appealing aspect of my work is the decoration. The colors stand out against the white clay body and are further enhanced with black accents throughout. This pattern has been simplified to a repeating arrangement of semicircles along a black band. Depending on the piece, the black accents are mitigated by white or gold dots along the pattern.
Ultimately my pottery is created through feeling. It’s not only visual but also haptical. Utilitarian pottery allows elegance in everyday habits of sustenance. I hope my work brings you a feeling of joy and fills your home or restaurant with unique pieces that make your everyday life all the more special.
